Main Topics of the Conversation – What Did Listeners Learn?

The discussion highlighted how contemporary universities are evolving beyond their traditional role as centres of education to become active contributors to social, economic, and environmental change. Their engagement in the green transition positions them as key partners for businesses, public institutions, and civil society. Together, they help implement climate strategies and develop solutions that promote sustainable development.“What unites us at UNIgreen is our shared commitment to a green future. Our universities are not limited to agriculture – we are engaged in biotechnology, life sciences, sustainable agriculture, and a broad spectrum of environmental responsibility,” emphasised Vice-Rector Mendel. In this context, the idea of a shared European campus—a physical space for exchanging experiences and a virtual platform for collaboration—takes on particular significance. It allows students, doctoral candidates, and researchers to move freely, engage in joint research projects, and test innovative solutions across diverse geographical and climatic conditions. The role of universities in society is also evolving. As dr hab. Chrobak noted, they are no longer isolated “Olympuses of knowledge,” but are becoming integral parts of a broader ecosystem. Universities are developing solutions that address current challenges and contribute to long-term civilizational progress through collaboration with their socio-economic environments.“The European University initiative is the most ambitious academic endeavour in the world,” concluded dr hab. Karol Chrobak. The whole programme is available on-line.
