Pola Emma Brettschneider – UNIgreen Ambassador at SGGW

Pola Emma Brettschneider

My name is Pola Emma Brettschneider, and I’m studying Biomedical Technology at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW).
In the UNIgreen alliance, I serve as a student ambassador, representing the students of my university and promoting international collaborations.

Added value of UNIgreen

Which added value or benefits of UNIgreen would you like to highlight, and why?

I think that the greatest added value of the UNIgreen alliance is the ability to connect students and researchers from institutions that share the same values.
I truly believe that UNIgreen reflects how universities should function in the future: cooperatively, openly, sustainably.

Personal meaning and reflection

Please tell us what UNIgreen means to you, and use one word to describe it.

UNIgreen can be seen as a metaphor for a bridge connecting eight Higher Education Institutions across Europe, all working towards a shared goal – to make an impact both in sustainability and scientific innovation.
That’s why, to me, UNIgreen means UNITY.

Impact and examples

Can you share one concrete way UNIgreen is making a positive impact?Ever since I started studying at the university, I have developed a strong interest in international collaboration and sustainable science.
I always felt at ease in intercultural environments, where people from diverse backgrounds have a space to exchange experiences and inspire one another.
I believe this is essential in my field, biomedical research, where global challenges require global solutions.
My first experience with the UNIgreen alliance was during my summer exchange at the University of Almeria, which also introduced me to the alliance’s focus on sustainable innovations in life sciences.
Later I had the opportunity to continue this journey at another UNIgreen partner institution, SupBiotech in Paris.
With many modules and courses on sustainability, my understanding of sustainable practices has deepened.
Thanks to the skills I gained through UNIgreen, I was able to do a biomedical internship in Denmark, where I could apply my knowledge in an international research environment.
I believe UNIgreen offers a lot of opportunities for young people to collaborate internationally for a better, greener future.

If UNIgreen were plants, how would you describe them?

Hmm… I think a flower meadow best reflects the character of UNIgreen.
Just like the colorful plants in a meadow, each university in the alliance plays its own role – different, but equally important.
In such a meadow, I also imagine many young shoots: ideas and initiatives waiting to blossom.
